Learning and communicating in two languages

Language comes to life when children use it.

At Riverside, Russian and English are used in different learning programmes. We help families understand how each programme works and what support their child may need.

In kindergarten

Songs, stories, games, creative activities and everyday conversation introduce children to English through meaningful experiences.

In primary school

The Russian programme follows Russian federal educational standards (FGOS) and is taught in Russian. The British programme uses English to teach subjects and is based on the National Curriculum for England.

Every child has a different starting point

Age, previous experience and language level help us identify a suitable learning format. We discuss the possibility of combining programmes and any additional lessons before enrolment.

Support for learning

Tell us which languages your child speaks at home and uses at school. We will discuss the language support available, what it involves and any fees.

Questions to bring to your visit

Which language is used for each subject? How well does your child understand instructions? What support can be arranged? How will the family and teacher discuss progress? Children develop language skills at different rates.

Let’s start with a visit

Come and see Riverside and talk through your family’s questions. Include your child’s age and the programme you are interested in so we can prepare for your visit.
